Categories of applications and projects built on the XRP Ledger, across tokenization, NFTs, DeFi, and payments.
The XRPL application ecosystem changes quickly — projects launch, pivot, and sometimes shut down. This page describes categories of activity rather than an exhaustive, current-as-of-today directory; treat any specific project name as an example, not a recommendation.
Tokenization platforms
A number of projects have used the XRPL's native trust-line and issued-currency system to tokenize real-world and synthetic assets — for example, Sologenic built a platform for tokenizing traditional stocks and ETFs as tradable XRPL assets, an early and prominent example of using the ledger's native issuance features for real-world asset tokenization rather than building a separate token-standard contract.
Gateways and issuers
Early XRPL "gateways" — services that issue trust-line-based representations of fiat currencies or other assets, and allow redemption back to the underlying asset — such as GateHub, were among the first applications built specifically to take advantage of the ledger's native currency-issuance design, predating much of the later "stablecoin" terminology used elsewhere in crypto.
NFT marketplaces
Following the 2024 activation of native NFT support (XLS-20), a number of NFT marketplaces and creator platforms launched specifically on the XRPL, drawn by its low, predictable fees and fast settlement relative to more congestion-prone chains.
DeFi on the XRPL
Beyond the native order-book DEX and AMM, third-party applications have built additional DeFi functionality on top of these primitives — lending, aggregation, and portfolio tools that route through the ledger's built-in exchange mechanisms rather than needing to build a separate liquidity layer from scratch.
Xahau ecosystem
The Xahau sidechain, with Hooks enabled, has its own emerging ecosystem of projects specifically exploring programmable, smart-contract-adjacent use cases that aren't possible on conservative XRPL mainnet — including more complex conditional payment logic and on-chain governance experiments.
Stablecoins
Beyond Ripple's own RLUSD, other fiat-backed and algorithmic stablecoin issuers have used the XRPL's trust-line system to issue tokens directly on the ledger, benefiting from its settlement speed and the built-in DEX for liquidity.
